My youngest client.
The brief was given by my 8 year old daughter. It was a warm summer day, and we were scooping ice cream from the box and yapping about k-pop demons and life. As it turns out, she aspires to become a cafe owner and she already has a name for it - Blue Cat Cafe. I asked whether blue color is a non-negotiable. She said yes, and we continued with the ice cream. Next day I pulled out my sketchbook.
The idea was already there. I just needed to make it look real. Blue Cat is like a slightly introverted neighbour next door - the one you can share a smile and a cookie with, without asking "how are you" if you're not committed to hear the full story. The visual is quiet and considered, but with fairly whimsy personality. Vibrant blue as the hero against warm neutrals - especially delicious creamy textures. Illustration features a cat that is a little bit shy, hiding behind the cup, but will purr if you know how to be gentle.
The client was pleased and drifted off drawing own menus and posters, featuring elements from the identity. Since then we've been doodling and animating together heaps of chubby cats and croissants.
